Rehab...

This I know to be true;  rehabilitation can take on many forms ...and many forms presented themselves this week.
My captain is home... healing and mending by the minute.  To see him out on our back deck in the early morning basking in the early morning sun...standing there in his robe...breathing in the fresh sea air that is ever so gently... blowing our curtains to one side.  He stares at the shore...at the blue heron...poking along looking for its breakfast.  Penny for your thoughts?  Just taking it all in...he replies.  It is Wednesday...exactly a week since he woke up in an altogether different environment.  One with strange noises... antiseptic smells... and nothing familiar or comforting.  Little do we know .... but many wake up to this every day.

We are not looking back.  It's over.  Today is a good day...and we will be ever thankful for that.  We got up...had breakfast in our beautiful sunporch...and didn't speak of the past...just talked in hushed tones as to what we would do that day.  The idea of going down to the boat loomed over our heads.  He's nervous...and rightly so.  BUT...like getting back up on the horse...he tackled it with the same determination he needed to walk again.  It is familiar territory and his brain will remember...with a little tweaking.

He slept for an hour after we got on board.  The boat rocked with the swells of the boat traffic in the channel and the ropes squeaked with the strain.  It was peaceful.  He was in his own little corner of heaven...I just knew.  I was quiet...afraid to breathe lest I wake him.  A friend stopped by...to tease...and to give him a card with many many signatures on it.  His coffee group...quite an eclectic group at that... was sending him their messages via a get well card...cute.

For everything there is a season.  This I also know to be true.  The cloud has lifted and we are now on the upswing.  Good news is the very best form of rehab...and we have had good news.  Maybe today we will take the boat to our own dock...to load with supplies...and maybe set out for our own cruise...to our home port.  He's ready.  I'm ready.  The 1st mate...yours truly...will be there with bells on.  We are blessed.
One of my cards for today: Card 4 (The Hermit) : What is going for you »

You are instinctively taking time to relax and reflect, drawing on your inner strength and wisdom to guide you through these difficult times. Time is a great healer, so if you don't know quite what to do now in time you will. The Hermit signals a warning not to make hasty decisions, and if you have been unwell this is a time for rest and recuperation.
