It's Not Whether You Win or Lose...it's How You Play the Game

After nine months of tough slugging through the countryside; through numerous snow storms; through hot sultry summer days; through rain and many many dogs; he is now the new Liberal MLA elect for his district.  The people have spoken. 

It will bring change.  Not just to our family unit, but to our community as a whole.  He walks to the beat of his own drum.  This will not necessarily make him popular, but it will allow him to sleep at night.  He will do what is right.  He will do what is honest.  He will never forget the people who are in need...this is why he is here...doing what he is doing...and I am grateful.  Grateful that his honesty, integrity, and humility shone through....day after day after day.   He never lost sight of the finish line; never lost sight of his purpose and ignored all the naysayers.  Negativity did not have a place at our table.  It was everywhere and at times we felt like we had an invisible 'shield' around us that protected us from having the negativity seep into our pores.  It did not.  We surrounded ourselves with positive people, who wished us well and stood by us through thick and thin and we are grateful.

Election Night, October 3rd, 2011

The air in the room was heavy.  It threatened to zap the energy out of everyone.  The door kept opening and closing.  People filed in to watch the big screen I had projected on the wall...for everyone to watch.  Results trickled in ever so slowly.  Fortunately, the results were also being called in to the district office.  Long before the island knew...we knew...and were rejoicing.  Our daughter cried.  Our son looked awfully pale, his anxiety showing on his face.  The wait was over.  The heavy weight on my chest lifted almost immediately when I crossed that room and put my arms around him.  The clapping was loud...many were crying but mostly they were cheering and smiling.  THAT was worth every moment.
