MAKING A DIFFERENCE
The year is 2001. The year the twin towers fell and the world was in chaos.
My son was 18 and was in his last year in High School. A classmate was diagnosed with cancer and needed support from the community to travel and receive cancer therapy. That same fall, when the world around him was falling apart, he, single handedly took up the crusade to organize fund raisers for his classmate. Later, when the local newspaper heard of his plans, published his picture with a hockey player from the PEI Abbies team who came out and played hockey for this cause. That same Christmas, I retrieved the 8x10 color glossy picture from the newspaper and gave it to my son for Christmas that year. On the reverse side I wrote the following:

Making a Difference
When the year brought tremendous sadness,
Families reached out to each other for comfort.
Amidst all the confusion, a bright light began to shine.
It came from the heart of our son, Greg.
Who tirelessly, and unwavering decided to ‘make a difference’.
We noticed the determination and drive to complete his task …
We noticed the anxiety, the attention to every small detail….
We noticed the excitement to see his dream become reality…
We noticed his humility with the unexpected recognition.
We noticed Greg…and we are and will ever be …so proud!!
